Chapter 141 - The Leviathan Awakes

I staggered back to the helm, soaking wet and gasping for breath in the freezing cabin air. The auxiliary power was holding, but the main terminal was flashing an urgent incoming satellite burst, routed through an ultra-low-frequency buoy that had surfaced after the explosion.

The video feed of Vice Admiral Eleanor Vance flickered back to life on the center console. Her expression remained stone-cold, but there was an unmistakable intensity in her eyes.

"You survived the interceptor," she said quietly. "Good. That was the splinter group commanded by Arthur’s true handler—a corrupt faction within the Naval Special Warfare Command who believed they could seize the Leviathan’s deep-acoustic telemetry."

"Mother, what is this ship?" I demanded, leaning heavily against the console, my hand pressed against my bleeding side. "What have you done to our family? What was Whispering Pines built for?"

Eleanor didn't flinch. "Your father was weak, Marcus. He took money from anyone who offered it, completely unaware that his contacts were foreign assets operating under diplomatic cover. Clara was just his mirror—vain, arrogant, and easily manipulated. I used their greed to keep them anchored at Whispering Pines for years. They were the perfect camouflage. No one looks for a strategic deep-strike command post under a dysfunctional family fighting over a four-million-dollar vacation home."

The screen zoomed out, revealing a live tactical satellite feed of the surface above.

The quiet, snow-dusted pines around Lake Tahoe were no longer peaceful. Three unmarked military transport helicopters were descending directly onto the front lawn of the villa, their spotlights pinning the grand wooden facade in blinding pillars of light. Armed teams were swarming the property, securing the perimeter with heavy machine guns.

"Arthur and Clara aren't in county lockup anymore," Eleanor said, her voice dropping to a grim whisper. "The splinter command broke them out of transport twenty minutes ago. They are bringing them to the surface station at Whispering Pines right now to force the terminal's physical override."

Suddenly, the floor beneath my feet gave a violent, sickening shudder.

It wasn't an explosion. It was a massive tectonic groaning from the bedrock beneath the lakebed.

On the long-range active sonar array, a contact appeared that dwarfed the sub I was piloting. A colossal silhouette, nearly six hundred feet in length, was rising out of an unmapped, deep subterranean cavern directly beneath the trench floor.

"Leviathan-01 has initiated launch protocol," the automated system announced in a cold, emotionless tone. "Surface trajectory confirmed. Impact with Whispering Pines foundation in three minutes."

I stared at the readout in horror.

"Marcus," my mother said through the speaker, her eyes locking onto mine one last time before the signal began to tear apart under electromagnetic interference. "You have three minutes to surface and choose: save the sister and father who stole your life, or let the foundation collapse and bury everything we ever built under the mountain."

The screen died. The colossal shadow on the sonar surged upward through the black water, and the foundation of the house above began to crack.
