Chapter 53 - THE BROTHER’S CONFESSIONDaniel tore open the control panel while Noah searched for an emergency release.
“You helped steal my child!” Daniel shouted.
Noah lowered his gun.
“I was trying to save my wife.”
Daniel lunged at him. They exchanged punches, crashing against the altar. Noah struck Daniel across the jaw, but Daniel fought back until both men fell.
Suddenly, armed guards stormed the chapel.
Noah knocked one man's weapon aside while Daniel struck another with a metal candleholder. They fought desperately until Noah found the emergency lever.
The chamber opened.
Daniel pulled Evelyn out just before she collapsed.
But the baby’s surveillance feed disappeared.
“She’s gone!” Noah shouted.
Thomas entered with six armed guards.
Daniel charged him, but Thomas struck him with his pistol. The guards punched Daniel and kicked him to the floor.
Noah grabbed a fallen weapon.
“Get away from him!”
He fired into the ceiling, distracting the guards long enough for Daniel to escape.
Then Thomas raised his gun.
Noah shot Thomas in the shoulder, but the guards retaliated. Noah fell, bleeding heavily.
Before dying, he pressed a key into Daniel’s hand.
“Your daughter is in the old hospital.”
Thomas laughed.
“You still don't understand. Your entire family is part of an experiment.”
A hidden door opened.
Claire emerged, holding the baby.
“Daniel, the child isn't Subject Six,” she whispered. “I am.”
Behind her, another woman appeared with a second newborn.
And beside that woman stood a man who looked impossibly old.
