Chapter 15 - THE DAUGHTER WHO WAS ERASED
Three months later, Daniel was rebuilding his life with Emma.
The financial investigation had exposed millions in stolen money. Robert faced prison, while Vanessa’s testimony helped investigators connect Victor to the conspiracy.
But Claire’s death remained unresolved.
Then Dr. Whitmore, the physician who delivered Emma, finally confessed.
“There were two babies that night,” he told Daniel. “Your father arranged for the second child to disappear.”
Daniel grabbed the doctor’s coat.
“Where is she?”
“I don’t know. Claire was searching for her before she died.”
Daniel released him, devastated.
His wife had been trying to bring their second daughter home—and someone had silenced her.
That evening, an envelope arrived.
Inside was a photograph of two newborn girls and an old adoption document.
One baby was labeled Emma Reed.
The other was named Evelyn Reed.
On the back, someone had written:
YOUR SECOND DAUGHTER KNOWS WHO KILLED CLAIRE.
Daniel’s phone rang immediately.
A woman spoke softly.
“My name is Evelyn. I believe you’re my father.”
Daniel could barely breathe.
“Where are you?”
“I’m somewhere your family will never think to look.”
A pause.
Then she whispered, “Your father wasn’t the only person who wanted my mother dead.”
The call ended.
Daniel stared at Claire’s photograph, his hands trembling.
