Chapter 27 - THE WOMAN WHO CAME BACK
Daniel tracked Elizabeth to an abandoned medical facility funded by Northbridge.
Inside, he found records proving that his mother's death certificate had been altered.
A nurse suddenly attacked him from behind, knocking him to the floor. She kicked away his phone and pressed a syringe against his neck.
“Stop searching,” she warned.
Daniel slammed her against a cabinet and escaped through a service corridor.
Outside, Evelyn waited with a photograph of Claire standing beside a mysterious woman.
“Claire knew Elizabeth was alive,” Evelyn confessed. “She met her two days before she died.”
“Why didn't she tell me?”
“Because Elizabeth threatened Emma.”
Daniel's anger turned to disbelief.
“My own mother threatened my daughter?”
A car screeched to a stop nearby.
A masked man jumped out, grabbed Evelyn, and dragged her toward the vehicle.
Daniel chased them, but the man struck him with a metal object and escaped.
On the pavement lay Evelyn's phone.
A message appeared on its screen:
THE NEXT BODY WILL BELONG TO SOMEONE YOU LOVE.
Daniel called the police, then noticed an unsent recording on the phone.
Claire's voice emerged.
