Chapter 14 - THE PRICE OF THE TRUTH
Robert’s confession shattered everything Daniel believed.
Emma had a twin sister.
The second baby had been secretly transferred to another family, and Robert had helped conceal the records. Claire discovered the truth shortly before her death.
“You stole a child?” Daniel shouted.
Robert tried to approach him.
“I thought I was protecting the family.”
Daniel punched his father across the face.
Robert stumbled backward, blood appearing at the corner of his mouth.
“You destroyed my wife, Dad! You put my daughter in danger!”
Robert did not fight back.
“I deserve worse.”
Victor laughed.
“Family drama is touching. But we still have business.”
He shoved a document toward Daniel, demanding that he surrender the trust and destroy Claire’s recording.
Daniel refused.
Victor punched him hard enough to knock him to the floor.
As Daniel struggled to rise, Detective Harris’s voice suddenly rang through his phone.
“We have a warrant! Officers are outside!”
Victor’s confidence vanished.
In the confusion, Emma escaped from the upstairs room and ran toward her father.
Daniel grabbed her and shielded her with his body as Victor’s men rushed through the back door.
Police stormed the house.
Victor was arrested. Robert surrendered, and Vanessa agreed to testify about the financial conspiracy.
For the first time, Daniel thought the nightmare was over.
Then Victor shouted as officers dragged him away.
“You think you’ve won? Ask your father who ordered Claire’s death!”
Daniel turned toward Robert.

And Daniel realized that even Victor’s arrest might not bring him justice.
