Chapter 12 - HIS FATHER’S BETRAYAL
Daniel found Robert tied to a chair inside an abandoned clinic.
“Dad!”
Robert looked up, his face covered in bruises.
“Daniel, you shouldn’t have come.”
“Tell me why Victor took Emma!”
Robert finally confessed. Eleven years earlier, he had helped Victor hide illegal financial transactions connected to Northbridge Holdings. When Claire discovered the evidence, Robert gave Victor information about her investigation.
“You betrayed my wife?” Daniel shouted.
“I never wanted her dead!”
Daniel grabbed his father’s collar.
“You let me bury her believing it was an accident!”
Robert broke down.
“I was trying to protect you.”
Daniel shoved him away. “You were protecting yourself!”
Suddenly, Victor appeared at the basement entrance.
“Touching family reunion.”
Daniel charged at him. Victor struck him across the temple, then punched him repeatedly until he fell against a metal table.
Robert tried to intervene, but Victor knocked him to the floor.
“Stay down!”
Daniel struggled to stand.
“What did you do to Claire?”
Victor’s expression darkened.
“She discovered something she was never supposed to know.”
Police sirens sounded outside. Victor escaped through a side exit, leaving behind a photograph of Claire holding newborn Emma.
On the back, Claire had written:
SHE IS NOT SAFE HERE.
Daniel stared at the words.
Then Robert whispered something that made his blood run cold.
“Claire had another recording. It reveals the truth about Emma’s birth.”

Before Daniel could ask another question, a gunshot echoed outside.
And Victor was gone again.
