Chapter 5 - The Money Trail
Daniel confronted Michael Grant, the attorney who had handled Vanessa's financial paperwork.
At first, Michael denied everything. But when Daniel showed him the forged authorization, his confidence collapsed.
“Vanessa gave me those documents,” Michael admitted. “I believed you had approved them.”
“Thousands of dollars were stolen from my daughter's trust!”
“I know. I should have stopped it.”
Michael revealed that Vanessa had worked with Andrew Cole through a company called Northbridge Holdings. Several transfers from Emma's trust had passed through its accounts.
Then he handed Daniel an insurance document.
Claire's life insurance beneficiary had apparently been changed six days before her fatal accident.
Daniel stared at the paper.
“Who changed it?”
Michael shook his head.
“I don't know. But Vanessa contacted me about the policy after Claire died.”
Daniel immediately suspected something far worse than financial fraud.
However, the documents didn't prove that Vanessa had caused Claire's death.
Rebecca warned him not to confront anyone without evidence.
That evening, Daniel received a package containing a photograph of Claire and an unknown man outside a hospital.
A note was attached:
Claire knew who was following her. Ask the driver.
Beneath the message was a name: Robert Hale.
Daniel searched the name and discovered that Robert had worked for Andrew Cole.
Then another message arrived.

Meet me tomorrow night. Come alone, or Emma will pay for your curiosity.
Would the mysterious driver reveal the truth—or lead Daniel straight into a trap?
