Chapter 33 - CLAIRE'S FINAL MESSAGE
Daniel discovered Claire's hidden recording inside the chapel.
On the screen, his wife looked frightened.
“Daniel, I never betrayed you. Someone has been impersonating Elizabeth, and that person knows everything about our family.”
The recording stopped.
A noise sounded behind him.
A masked attacker struck Daniel across the back and threw him against the shelves. Before he could recover, the attacker punched him twice and kicked the laptop away.
“Stop digging!” the man shouted.
Daniel fought back, ripping off the mask.
He froze.
The attacker was Thomas Hale.
Thomas hit him again, sending him crashing into the table.
“You should have stayed ignorant!” Thomas screamed.
Daniel grabbed his coat.
“Did you kill Claire?”
Thomas hesitated.
That hesitation was enough.
Daniel struck him and demanded the truth.
Thomas finally admitted that Claire had discovered a secret concerning an unborn child.
Before he could explain, the chapel door slammed open.
Evelyn rushed inside, bleeding from her forehead.
“Daniel, we have to leave!”
Outside, a limousine waited in the rain.
Its rear window lowered, revealing a little girl who looked exactly like Emma.
The girl pressed a note against the glass.
I AM YOUR REAL DAUGHTER.
Daniel turned toward Evelyn.
“Who is that child?”
Evelyn began to cry.
“Claire gave birth to twins.”
Then the limousine sped away.
Daniel stood motionless.
He had believed he was searching for one missing daughter.
