We found Victoria in an abandoned hotel.

Julian stepped forward.
“You ruined my life.”
Victoria looked at him.

“You cheated with me.”
“Yes.”
“You destroyed my marriage.”
“Yes.”
“You manipulated me.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
She looked at me.
“Because Richard told me if I didn't, he would kill my sister.”
Julian went silent.
Victoria continued.
“I thought I was protecting one person.”
She laughed bitterly.
“Instead, I destroyed four lives.”
I looked at her.
“Where is Richard?”
“I can take you to him.”
“Why should I trust you?”
“You shouldn't.”
That answer surprised me.
Victoria stood.
“But you can verify everything.”
She placed a flash drive on the table.
“Every communication between Richard and me.”
Julian picked it up.
Victoria looked at me.
“Richard is going to the old courthouse.”
“Why?”
“He believes your mother's original records are still there.”
I turned toward the door.
Victoria called after me.
“Emily.”
I stopped.
“You need to know something.”
“What?”
“Richard isn't trying to kill you.”
I looked back.
“Then what does he want?”
