Chapter 57 - THE FRAME-UP

The next morning, the police arrived at my house.
They had a warrant.
I opened the door.
“What is this?”
The officer handed me a document.
“You are under investigation for financial fraud.”
I stared.
“What?”
Julian came downstairs.
The officer continued.
“Millions of dollars were transferred from the trust into accounts connected to you.”
“That isn't true.”
“We have the records.”
I looked at Julian.
He immediately understood.
“It's a setup.”
The officers searched the house.
They found documents.
USB drives.
Bank statements.
Everything connecting me to the money.
None of it was mine.
All of it had been planted.
My grandfather shouted:
“They're framing her!”
The officer looked uncomfortable.
“We have orders.”
“From whom?”
He didn't answer.
Then another officer entered.
“Take her.”
Julian stepped forward.
“No.”
The officer reached for his weapon.
I stopped Julian.
“Don't.”
He looked at me.
“They want you to fight.”
I whispered:
“Exactly.”
I turned toward the officers.
“I'll go.”
Julian grabbed my hand.
“I'll get you out.”
I looked at him.
“Find Account 909.”
He nodded.
As they led me away, my father called out:
“Emily!”
I turned.
He held up his phone.
A message had arrived.
THE ACCOUNT ISN'T IN THE BANK.
