Chapter 85 - VICTORIA'S LAST SECRET

The vehicles stopped outside.

Men stepped out.

But Victoria wasn't with them.

At least, not visibly.

Eleanor looked at me.

“Your former husband's new wife has been working for The Circle for years.”

Julian went completely still.

“What?”

“You thought she entered your life by accident.”

His face hardened.

“She knew about The Circle before she met me?”

“Yes.”

I turned toward him.

“Did you know?”

“No.”

Eleanor shook her head.

“Victoria was assigned to monitor you.”

I felt cold.

“Me?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because The Circle needed to know whether you would ever discover the truth.”

Julian stared at the floor.

“And the wedding?”

Eleanor's expression changed.

“The wedding was supposed to be the final humiliation.”

I looked at her.

“What?”

“Victoria wanted you emotionally destroyed.”

“Why?”

“Because a broken woman was easier to control.”

Silence filled the room.

Julian whispered:

“She used me.”

Eleanor looked at him.

“Yes.”

He laughed bitterly.

“That's almost funny.”

“No,” I said.

He looked at me.

“It's not.”

Outside, the first man reached the front door.

Eleanor handed me a small key.

“Take this.”

“What does it open?”

“The room beneath the house.”

I stared at her.

“We already searched the basement.”

“You searched the basement.”

She smiled.

“You never found the second basement.”

A loud knock shook the front door.

Julian moved toward the stairs.

Eleanor grabbed my arm.

“One warning.”

“What?”

“Do not trust anyone who tells you The Circle can be destroyed.”

“Why?”

“Because it cannot.”

May you like

The door exploded inward.

And Victoria walked through the smoke.
