Chapter 67 - THE RETURN OF ELEANOR

We thought Eleanor's arrest had ended everything.

It hadn't.

Two days later, she escaped custody.

No one knew how.

There were no broken locks.

No bribed guards.

No cameras disabled.

She simply walked out.

Then my phone received a photograph.

Eleanor stood beside an old cemetery.

Behind her was Elena's grave.

I stared at the image.

“She knows where her grave is.”

My father went pale.

“No.”

“What?”

“She doesn't know where Elena is buried.”

I looked at him.

“You're saying that isn't Elena's grave?”

“No.”

“Then whose?”

He stared at the photograph.

“My sister's.”

“Your sister?”

“Yes.”

I looked at my grandfather.

He nodded.

“Your aunt.”

The woman whose identity had been hidden for decades.

Eleanor stood beside her grave.

Then another message arrived.

COME ALONE.

A second message.

BRING THE JOURNAL.

I didn't answer.

Julian took the phone.

“No.”

I looked at him.

“If I don't go, she may hurt someone.”

“We'll go together.”

“No.”

He stared.

“I've lost too many people because I believed I had to protect them alone.”

I looked at him.

“You don't have to.”

He took my hand.

“Neither do you.”

My father loaded his weapon.

“We all go.”

May you like

My grandfather stood.

“I know where she is.”
