Chapter 34 - THE MAN WHO STOLE A NAME

We took Noah back to the car.

Julian called the police.

Then he contacted an old investigator he trusted.

Within an hour, we had an answer.

Arthur Bell had indeed died seven years ago.

But someone had been using his identity.

A man named Elliot Vance.

My grandfather's younger brother.

I stared at the file.

“My grandfather had a brother?”

Julian nodded.

“He supposedly died before you were born.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“That's impossible.”

The investigator pointed to the photograph.

“This man was never confirmed dead.”

“Then why was he declared dead?”

“Your grandfather signed the paperwork.”

I looked at Noah.

Everything was becoming another layer of lies.

Julian asked:

“Why would Elliot pretend to be Arthur?”

The investigator answered:

“Because Arthur had access to the trust.”

“And Elliot wanted it.”

“Yes.”

“But why Noah?”

The investigator looked at the documents.

“Because Noah inherited the trust.”

I frowned.

“That's what Arthur said.”

“Elliot knew.”

I looked at Julian.

“Then the man who kidnapped Noah…”

“Was Elliot.”

A chill ran through me.

“But where is my mother?”

No one answered.

Then my phone rang.

Unknown number.

I answered.

A man's voice whispered:

“Your mother is alive.”

“Who are you?”

A pause.

May you like

Then:

“Your grandfather.”
