Chapter 7 - The Vengeance of a Father

"No! This is a setup!" Julian screamed, kicking and thrashing as the federal marshals slammed heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. Claire burst into hysterical tears as she was grabbed by a female officer, both of them dragged away in absolute disgrace as the wealthy guests watched in stunned silence.

The ballroom was left in a state of profound, absolute shock.

Harrison didn't watch his brother get hauled away. He didn't care about the corporate shares or the board of directors. His entire universe had shrunk down to the little girl sitting on his lap.

He wrapped his arms around her tightly, burying his face in her shoulder. Tears streamed down his rugged face as he cried openly, completely overwhelmed by an ocean of sheer relief, joy, and unfathomable love.

The maid in the light green uniform wiped a tear from her own eye, stepping forward to hand him his dropped stuffed bunny. "I tried to protect her, Mr. Vance. I sneaked food down to the basement every night. I knew she belonged to you."

Harrison looked up, offering the maid a nod of profound, eternal gratitude. "You saved my family. You will never have to work another day in your life."
