Chapter 2 - The Little Intruder

The heavy security detail at the front doors had been instructed by Julian to keep all uninvited guests out. Yet, somehow, a tiny figure had slipped past the guards and wandered straight into the center of the glittering ballroom.

It was a little girl, no more than four years old.

She wore a delicate, light pink sleeveless dress. Her blonde hair was tied up neatly in a cute bun, and she clutched a small, identical stuffed bunny toy tightly against her chest. Her big, innocent eyes scanned the sea of towering adults in formal attire, looking completely lost.

A young maid wearing a light green and white maid uniform spotted the child from across the room. Panic flashed across her face as she hurried anxiously through the crowd, whispering apologies to the wealthy guests.

The little girl didn't run toward the fancy food or the sparkling lights. Instead, her small steps guided her directly toward the isolated black wheelchair in the corner of the room.

Harrison looked down. His breath hitched in his throat.

The little girl stopped right in front of him. She tilted her head upward, her big, innocent eyes locking onto his tear-filled gaze. She noticed the worn stuffed bunny resting on his lap, then looked down at the identical toy in her own hands.

Harrison’s chest tightened. He swallowed hard, struggling to keep his voice from breaking as he looked at the child.

"Can you be my daughter for one day?" Harrison whispered softly, the words escaping his lips before he could stop them, driven by a year of pure, suffocating agony.

👉 The billionaire’s plea was heartbreaking, but the toddler's innocent question was about to pierce straight through his armor.
