Chapter 38 - the golden horizon

That weekend, the family gathered back at the peaceful countryside farm. The crisp autumn air was filled with the smell of woodsmoke and the joyous sounds of a massive, celebratory barbecue. The darkness had truly been vanquished.

Michael stood by the grill, laughing as he flipped burgers. He looked healthier and happier than he ever had during his reign as an underworld king. He watched Noah talking animatedly with Emily, their bond absolutely unbreakable.

Noah had recently proposed to a brilliant pediatric oncologist he worked with at the foundation. They were planning a spring wedding, promising a beautiful, bright future filled with love, laughter, and a brand new generation of Carters.

"We did good, Michael," Emily said softly, walking over to wrap her arms around her husband's waist. She leaned her head against his broad shoulder, completely at peace.

"You did good, Emily," Michael corrected her gently, kissing her forehead. "You walked into a monster's lair, saved his son, and gave them both a heart. Everything beautiful in this life started with you."
