Chapter 16 - the painful battle

The surgery, which lasted over ten hours, was a complete success. However, that was only the beginning. The physical therapy process was the true brutal battle that tested human will and endurance.

Every day, Harrison had to grit his teeth and endure the flesh-tearing pain from his atrophied muscles. He struggled to practice walking on the parallel bars, his shirt soaked in sweat, but he never uttered a word of complaint.

There were times when his legs gave out, causing him to collapse onto the cold gym floor. Disappointment and helplessness surged through his veins. He angrily slammed his fist onto the floor, feeling as though all his efforts were in vain.

Just then, little Chloe ran into the gym. She held her familiar stuffed bunny, her large, round eyes filled with encouragement and pure love. "Daddy, you can do it! You're my superhero!"

Hearing his daughter's voice, the flame of willpower in Harrison's heart burned more fiercely than ever. He gritted his teeth, gripped the parallel bars tightly with his strong hands, and slowly lifted his entire body weight.
