Chapter 58 - The Man Who Created the LoopThe merger stopped at ninety-nine percent.

Every clock in the citadel froze.
The shattered hourglasses hung motionless in the air.
Ethan found himself standing in an endless white room.
Malachar stood beside him.
For the first time, the dark king looked frightened.
A door appeared ahead.
Behind it waited a man in a simple gray suit.
His face was Ethan's.
But older than Malachar.
Perhaps seventy years old.
His hair was silver.
His eyes were black.
He regarded them with a cold smile.
"Welcome home."
Ethan stepped forward.
"Who are you?"
The man folded his hands.
"The version of you that stopped believing either world deserved to survive."
Malachar drew his sword.
"You."
The old man smiled.
"So you finally remember."
Ethan looked between them.
"What is happening?"
The stranger approached.
"My name is Elias Cole. I am the final Ethan."
He explained that after centuries of failed attempts to save both worlds, the original Ethan had grown desperate.
Every solution ended in suffering.
Every victory created another disaster.
Eventually, he concluded that the problem was not the fracture.
It was time itself.
"As long as the future exists," Elias said, "people will suffer."
Ethan stared at him.
"That's insane."
"Is it?"
Elias gestured.
Images surrounded them.
Wars.
Disasters.
Cities burning.
Children crying.
"Every tragedy begins with time moving forward. Remove time, and nothing can ever be lost again."
Malachar stepped between them.
"You promised to end the cycle."
"I promised to end suffering."
Elias raised one hand.
The chamber behind them began dissolving.
Daniel.
Mira.
Rowan.
Elara.
All frozen.
Ethan shouted.
"Leave them alone!"
Elias looked down at him.
"You are the last obstacle."
Ethan felt a sudden pain in his chest.
A silver mark appeared beneath his skin.
The same mark the replacement boy had worn.
Elias smiled.
"When the worlds merged, I created two boys. One in each reality."
Ethan froze.
"Why?"
"Because whichever one survived would become the final key."
The old man pointed at him.
"You were never the chosen one, Ethan."
May you like
The white room darkened.
"You were the sacrifice."
