Chapter 2 - The King's Impossible RecognitionNoah thought he had misheard.

Three hundred years?
He looked around desperately, searching for a camera crew or some explanation for the medieval costumes.
There was none.
The knights surrounding him carried real steel.
"Who sent you?" King Aldric demanded.
"No one! I don't even know where I am!"
A silver-haired commander stepped forward.
"Your Majesty, perhaps the boy is a spy."
But Aldric was staring at Noah's face.
"Bring me the royal portrait."
Servants carried forward a painting concealed beneath dark red fabric.
When the covering fell away, Noah stopped breathing.
The portrait showed a young king wearing a golden crown and ermine cloak.
The boy in the painting had Noah's eyes, his nose, and even the tiny scar above his left eyebrow.
An inscription beneath the frame read:
KING ELIAN — LOST IN THE YEAR OF THE BLACK SUN.
Noah backed away.
"Who is that?"
The king answered with a question.
"Where did you get that scar?"

Before Noah could speak, the great doors slammed shut by themselves.
And every candle in the hall turned blue.
