Chapter 15 - The Grandfather Who Never Grew OldThomas Carter stepped between Noah and the approaching soldiers.

King Aldric stared at him in disbelief.
"You should be dead."
Thomas smiled without humor.
"I've heard that before."
He explained that traveling through time had damaged his place in history.
Some years he aged normally.
Other years passed around him without leaving a mark.
For decades he had been searching for a way to reverse the kingdom's catastrophe.
Noah struggled to understand.
"You knew this was going to happen?"
"I knew you might return."
"Then why didn't you tell me?"
"Because knowledge changes choices. And this time, the choice has to be yours."
Thomas took the silver coin.
Its light began to fade.
Aldric lunged forward.
But Thomas tossed it back to Noah.
"Remember the night I taught you how to read a compass?"
Noah nodded.

Thomas pointed toward the gate.
"Then remember this: north isn't always where the map says it is."
