Chapter 60

One year later.

The sprawling Montana ranch was alive with the vibrant colors of autumn. The air was crisp, filled with the scent of pine and roasting wood. The heavy, oppressive shadows of the past had been completely, permanently erased.

Cole Bennett stood by the wooden corral, wearing a faded denim jacket, his dark hair ruffled by the wind. He was watching Nora, now a vibrant, fearless little girl, expertly riding a gentle palomino horse under the watchful eye of a fully healed Rachel Donovan.

"She has good balance," Ava smiled, walking up behind Cole and wrapping her arms around his waist. She rested her head against his broad back, a profound, unshakeable peace radiating from her.

"She has her mother's stubbornness," Cole chuckled warmly, turning to pull Ava into a deep, lingering kiss.

The dark, terrifying operator of Task Force 9 was gone, replaced entirely by a devoted partner and a fiercely protective uncle.

Sarah walked out onto the porch of the main house, holding a tablet and a mug of coffee.

"The global news cycle is fascinating today," Sarah announced, a wry smile touching her lips. "Director Vance was officially indicted on forty counts of treason by a closed congressional committee. The remnants of the Vanguard are being systematically dismantled by international task forces."

"The system works," Cole murmured, leaning against the wooden fence. "When you remove the rot."

"And the Castalano family?" Ava asked softly.

"Thriving," Sarah reported. "Vincent officially dissolved the illicit branches of the Chicago syndicate. They are running legitimate global logistics now. Claire just opened her third pediatric hospital."

Cole nodded, a deep sense of satisfaction settling in his chest. They had all fought through hell, confronted monsters in the dark, and secured their own corners of heaven.

As the sun began to set, painting the vast Big Sky country in brilliant shades of violet and gold, the family gathered around the large stone fire pit in the backyard.

Laughter echoed across the valley, a beautiful, defiant sound that proved light could conquer the deepest shadows.

Cole sat back in his chair, watching Ava smile as Nora roasted a marshmallow. His heart was completely full. The war was truly over. He had finally found his sanctuary.

But far away, in a desolate, forgotten corner of a Russian naval yard, an old, analog, heavy steel communication terminal began to hum.

It didn't ring. It didn't emit a sound.

The heavy glass screen illuminated in the dark, displaying a single, chilling, unencrypted line of text.

The Americans destroyed the network. The board is reset. Initiate Protocol Leviathan. Awaken the Deep.

The shadowy figure standing before the terminal smiled, a cold, empty expression that promised a new kind of terror.

The game for the old world was over. But the battle for the deep had only just begun.
