Chapter 49

The interior of the Omega Vault was a stark, terrifying contrast to the chaotic blizzard outside. The air was sterile, warm, and smelled of ozone and antiseptic. Cole, Ava, and Donovan moved down the brightly illuminated corridor, their weapons raised, expecting heavy resistance.
"Contact front!" Donovan hissed, dropping to a knee as three heavily armored mercenaries rounded the corner.
Cole didn't hesitate. He fired a three-round burst with surgical precision, dropping the first two guards instantly. Donovan laid down suppressive fire, forcing the third guard back behind the concrete corner.
"Push them!" Cole commanded, sprinting forward while laying down cover fire.
He didn't stop to seek cover. He closed the distance, sliding across the polished floor and driving his combat knife upward into the remaining guard’s tactical vest, neutralizing him silently.
"We're in the upper administration level," Sarah’s voice echoed in their earpieces. "The primary biological laboratory is three floors down. They have Nora in the central containment unit."
"Are they extracting the data?" Ava asked, her voice tight with panic.
"They have initiated a localized blood-draw protocol," Sarah warned. "You have less than ten minutes before they map the sequence and secure the weapon."
They descended the heavy metal stairwells, clearing floor after floor with brutal, terrifying efficiency. Cole fought with an apocalyptic fury, abandoning standard military protocol for sheer, overwhelming violence. He wasn't a soldier completing a mission; he was a father tearing down a castle to save his child.
Ava stayed perfectly in his shadow, checking the corners, her pistol steady. When a wounded mercenary attempted to raise a weapon at Cole’s back, Ava didn't blink. She fired twice, dropping the threat permanently.
Cole glanced back at her, immense pride and respect flashing in his dark eyes.
They reached the heavy, reinforced glass doors of the primary biological laboratory.
Inside the massive, high-tech room, surrounded by complex medical equipment and glowing servers, was the Warden. He stood behind a reinforced observation window, looking down at a specialized medical chair in the center of the lab.
Strapped to the chair, crying softly, was Nora. A small IV line was inserted into her arm, connected to a massive centrifuge machine.
"Nora!" Ava screamed, slamming her hands against the reinforced glass doors.
The Warden looked up, mildly surprised by their arrival. He pressed a button on a nearby console.
"You are incredibly persistent, Cole," the Warden’s voice echoed through the intercom. "But you are too late. The extraction is ninety percent complete. The Omega sequence is almost mine."
"Open the doors, Warden," Cole growled, placing a heavy C4 charge directly onto the glass.
"If you blow this glass, the sudden pressure change will trigger a localized decontamination purge," the Warden warned smoothly. "The room will flood with incinerating gas. The child will die."
Cole froze, his hand hovering over the detonator.
"You are trapped by your attachments, Ghost," the Warden smiled. "It makes you weak."
"I'm not weak," Cole whispered, his eyes turning to absolute obsidian. "Sarah. Override the decontamination protocol."
"I'm locked out, Cole!" Sarah panicked over the comms. "It's an air-gapped system! I can't reach it!"
Cole looked at Ava, whose eyes were filled with tears of absolute despair. They were inches away from her, but completely powerless.
"Daddy," Nora whimpered through the intercom, looking weakly toward the glass doors.
May you like
Cole’s heart shattered. He couldn't blow the door. He couldn't hack the system.
He turned his assault rifle around, gripping the hot barrel, and began brutally, frantically smashing the heavy steel butt of the weapon against the reinforced glass.
