Chapter 8 - The Price of Treason

The atrium was dead. Not a single person breathed. The sheer, terrifying genius of Don Vincent Falcone hung over the room like an inescapable shroud of absolute dominance. He hadn't just defeated an enemy; he had completely dismantled her world while she was picking out the floral arrangements for his daughter's birthday.
Valentina dropped to her knees. Her legs could no longer support the weight of her collapsed reality. The emerald gown pooled around her like poison water. Her son, Ethan, broke free from her grip and scrambled toward the far wall, curling into a ball beside a leather ottoman, weeping silently into his sleeves.
Valentina looked up at Vincent, her eyes hollow, stripped of every ounce of pride, vanity, and venom.
"Vincent..." she begged, her voice barely a whisper, her hands trembling as she reached toward his polished shoes. "Please... I am your wife... the Church... our vows..."
Vincent stopped directly above her. He looked down at her with less emotion than one would give a shadow.
"You broke your vows the day you thought you could raise your hand against my daughter," Vincent said, each word a nail in her coffin. "You told her to beg on the ground. Look at you now."
Vincent turned his head slightly toward Uncle Carlo and two heavy-set enforcers standing near the entrance.
"Strip her," Vincent commanded.
Valentina gasped, her eyes flying wide in terror. "No! Vincent, please! Not in front of them!"
Carlo stepped forward without hesitation. With cold, professional efficiency, the old capo and an enforcer pinned Valentina’s arms. They did not touch her body dishonorably, but with ruthless precision, they unclasped the massive diamond necklace, tore the heirloom diamond earrings from her ears, and pried the multi-million-dollar Falcone family crest wedding ring from her shaking finger.
The ring was handed directly to Vincent.
He held the heavy platinum band in his palm, looking at the inscription inside. Without a second thought, he tossed the ring onto the floor and crushed it beneath the heavy heel of his shoe, warping the precious metal into worthless scrap with a single, brutal twist of his foot.
"Take her gown," Vincent said coldly.
"No! Please!" Valentina wailed, thrashing against the guards, but it was futile.
An enforcer drew a razor-sharp tactical blade and sliced through the straps and the back seam of the thousand-dollar emerald gown, peeling the luxurious fabric away and leaving Valentina kneeling on the cold marble in her plain, utilitarian undergarments, shivering violently from both the cold air and the catastrophic humiliation.
The elite guests looked on in absolute, chilled silence. No one offered a jacket. No one offered a hand. The high-society American heiress had been reduced to an absolute nobody in less than ten minutes.
"You wanted to take everything from my daughter," Vincent said, staring down at the broken woman. "Now, you leave this estate the exact way you will enter the federal prison system: stripped of everything, with nothing but your shame."
Vincent turned his back on her and waved his hand dismissively.
"Throw her out the service entrance. Put her in an unmarked van and deliver her directly to the FBI field office. Tell them she is the state's star witness against her father. Let them tear each other apart in the holding cells."

"Vincent! No! Vincent! Ethan! Help me!" Valentina screamed, her voice echoing down the corridors as the two stone-faced guards hauled her dragging feet across the marble, through the service doors, and out of the Falcone estate forever.
