Chapter 4 - The Boyfriend's Panic

Nolan sprinted forward, practically throwing himself in front of Sloane in a state of absolute panic. He bowed his head nervously, his hands trembling as he stood before Roman.
"Mr. Raines, please! This is a massive misunderstanding!" Nolan pleaded in a terrified whisper, sweat breaking out across his forehead. "Sloane didn't know! She had a little too much to drink! We apologize, we'll pay for the dress, we'll do whatever it takes!"
Roman’s cold gaze shifted from Sloane to Nolan. "Your family's firm, Whitmore Development, relies heavily on the harbor shipping contracts to import your steel, doesn't it, Nolan?"
Nolan swallowed hard, a sickening knot forming in his stomach. The Raines Syndicate controlled every single shipping port in the tri-state area.
"Yes, sir," Nolan whimpered. "Please, Mr. Raines. I am currently finalizing a fifty-million-dollar merger. If those shipping lines are disrupted, my family will be bankrupt by Monday morning."
"It's not a disruption," Roman stated smoothly, his dark eyes devoid of any mercy. "It's an eradication."
Sloane grabbed Nolan's arm, her arrogance completely shattered. "Nolan! Do something! He can't just ruin us over a stupid dress!"
Roman stepped forward, the physical intimidation of his tall, broad frame forcing both Nolan and Sloane to cower backward. The air around him crackled with lethal intent.
