Chapter 19 - The Last WitnessInvestigators summoned attorney Victor Lang, who had managed the family’s legal affairs for nearly fifteen years.

Victor denied involvement in the fraudulent trust documents.

“I visited Isabella because she requested legal advice,” he explained. “I never harmed her.”

“Why did you conceal the visit?” Luciano demanded.

“Because she told me she feared someone in the family. She asked me to keep her concerns confidential until she could provide proof.”

Victor revealed that Isabella had suspected a broader conspiracy involving Adrian’s company and several unauthorized financial transactions.

She had prepared a statement naming the people responsible, but it disappeared after her death.

“Where is it?” Richard asked.

Victor said Isabella had entrusted it to someone outside the family.

Investigators traced the recipient to a retired nurse who had cared for Isabella at the hospital.

The nurse confirmed that Isabella had given her a sealed package shortly before her condition deteriorated. She had hidden it for two years because an anonymous caller threatened her.

Inside the package was Isabella’s signed statement and a recording of a conversation.

On the recording, Adrian could be heard demanding that Isabella approve the transfer agreement.

Isabella refused.

Then another voice interrupted.

The recording ended before the speaker could be identified.

Luciano listened repeatedly, recognizing something familiar in the voice but unable to place it.

Investigators began enhancing the audio.

That night, Ellie woke from a nightmare and ran into Luciano’s bedroom.

“Daddy, I remember the man who argued with Mommy.”

Luciano held her gently.

“Who was he?”

Ellie looked toward the hallway.

“He sounded like Uncle Victor.”

Luciano went cold.

Could the recording finally reveal the person who had helped destroy Isabella’s life?
