Chapter 16 - The Hidden EnvelopeLuciano and Richard searched Isabella’s childhood home with the permission of her relatives.

Behind a loose panel in an old writing desk, they discovered the sealed envelope.
Inside were copies of financial records, handwritten notes, and a letter explaining that Isabella had uncovered suspicious transfers involving the family trust.
One name appeared repeatedly: Adrian Cross.
But the documents also implicated Luciano’s late father, who had authorized an earlier financial arrangement that Adrian was now attempting to exploit.
Luciano stared at the records.
“My father knew?”
Richard studied the dates. “He may have approved the original arrangement without understanding what Adrian intended. We need the complete contracts before drawing conclusions.”
The letter contained Isabella’s final warning:
If anything happens to me, protect Ellie from anyone who tries to control her inheritance. The truth is in the original trust agreement.
Luciano searched the accompanying documents but found no original contract.
Then he noticed a handwritten note identifying a storage facility.
They drove there immediately.
The manager produced a box registered under Isabella’s name. Inside lay the original agreement—and a second document bearing Luciano’s signature.
He had never seen it before.
The document authorized Adrian to act on Luciano’s behalf if Luciano became incapacitated.
It also contained a suspicious clause involving Ellie’s guardianship.
Luciano’s hands shook with anger.
Someone had forged his authorization and prepared a plan to take control of his daughter’s future.
Richard called the investigators.
Before they arrived, Luciano noticed a surveillance camera aimed directly at the storage unit.
Someone had been watching them.
A car screeched out of the parking lot.
Luciano recognized the driver.

Adrian.
Why had Adrian risked exposing himself to recover those documents?
