Chapter 17 - The ConfrontationLuciano followed Adrian’s car to an abandoned office building, where he found him waiting.

“You should have stayed away from my family,” Luciano said.

Adrian smiled. “Your family? Isabella spent the last months of her life trying to escape the lies you built around her.”

Luciano struck him across the face.

Adrian staggered, then laughed.

“You think violence will give you answers?”

“Tell me what happened the night Isabella died.”

Adrian’s expression changed.

“She discovered the trust arrangement and threatened to expose everyone involved. I tried to persuade her to stay quiet.”

“Did you kill her?”

“No.”

“Then why did you disappear?”

“Because someone else made sure she could never testify.”

Before Luciano could press him further, two men emerged from a nearby doorway.

Richard, who had followed Luciano, called the police.

A brief struggle erupted. One man shoved Richard against a wall, while Luciano fought to keep Adrian from escaping.

Sirens sounded in the distance.

Adrian broke free and ran toward a side exit, but officers intercepted him outside.

During questioning, Adrian denied causing Isabella’s death. He admitted attempting to gain influence over the trust but claimed he had been threatened into continuing the scheme.

He named the person who had threatened him.

Luciano felt the world tilt.

It was someone who had attended Isabella’s funeral, comforted him afterward, and remained close to Ellie.

Someone Luciano had trusted without question.

When he returned home, that person was already waiting in his study.

And the door was locked from the inside.
