Chapter 22 - The Emergency Partner Meeting

By 10:30 AM, the shockwaves of Jonathan’s arrest had ripped through the legal and financial establishment of the state like a magnitude-eight earthquake. Flash news banners blared across financial networks: VANCE & STERLING MANAGING PARTNER INDICTED IN FEDERAL RACKETEERING PROBE.

Marcus Vance called us from a secure conference room inside the Manhattan district courthouse, his voice practically humming with triumphant adrenaline.

"You should see the lobby of the firm right now, David," Marcus laughed through the speakerphone, the background noise sounding like a cross between a stock exchange trading floor and a funeral parlor. "Junior partners are shredding their own resumes in the copy room. The senior equity partners have called an emergency vote to strip Jonathan of his voting shares and distance the firm from his personal malfeasance before the federal regulators freeze all operating accounts."

"Can the firm survive an indictment of its name partner?" David asked, pacing slowly across our study.

"Survive? Barely," Marcus said. "They're going to have to rebrand, restructure, and purge half the executive board. But right now, the primary concern of every lawyer in that building isn't billable hours—it's making sure federal prosecutors don't indict the entire partnership for turning a blind eye to Jonathan’s extracurricular financial terrorism."

"What about the assets Amanda tried to seize?" I interjected, leaning over the desk. "The disputed tech inheritance patents, the real estate deeds, the corporate restructuring accounts?"

"Nullified, every single one of them," Marcus confirmed instantly. "Because the foundational documents were filed using fraudulent proxy signatures orchestrated by Jonathan, the court has issued an immediate stay on all transfer proceedings. Everything reverts back to your uncontested control, clean and clear of encumbrances."

"It's over," David whispered, stopping his pacing as the magnitude of the victory finally settled into the room.

"Not quite yet," Marcus’s tone sobered slightly. "Jonathan hasn't entered a plea yet, and his defense attorneys are already trying to negotiate a restricted bail package. He's going to fight this tooth and nail. But for the first time in seven years, David, you hold all the cards."
