Chapter 13 - The Turning TideIn the pitch-black darkness, Daniel didn't hesitate.

Relying purely on adrenaline and instinct, he lunged forward through the falling glass, tackling Marcus hard around the waist. The two men crashed heavily to the floor, wrestling furiously for control of Marcus’s pistol.

"Get off me, you idiot!" Marcus grunted, elbowing Daniel in the ribs.

"This is for Elena! And this is for my son!" Daniel roared, summoning a surge of raw, primal strength he never knew he possessed. He slammed Marcus’s wrist against the hardwood floor until the pistol slipped from his fingers, clattering away into the dark.

Meanwhile, Maria swept her rifle stock forward with expert precision, catching the second intruder square in the jaw. The man crumpled to the floor like a sack of potatoes, unconscious before he even hit the ground.
