Chapter 1 - The Sound of the DoorDaniel didn't just walk out of his office; he exploded through the door. His boots hit the hardwood floor like thunderclaps, each step fueled by a sickening mix of blind panic and white-hot fury.

Clang. Clang. Clang.

Down the long hallway he flew, his phone clutched in his white-knuckled grip, emergency services already dialed on speed-dial. His mind raced back to the live feed he had just witnessed. Vanessa standing over his six-month-old son with an iron glowing with terrifying, unnatural heat. The steam curling upward. Noah’s panicked, heart-wrenching screams.

"Vanessa, what the hell are you doing?!" Daniel roared, his voice echoing off the walls before he even reached the nursery threshold.

Inside the room, the color drained entirely from Vanessa’s face. The heavy iron slipped from her fingers, crashing onto the thick nursery rug with a dull, heavy thud. The spell was broken. The quiet, calculated malice in her eyes vanished instantly, replaced by wide-eyed, theatrical terror.

She spun around just as Daniel burst into the room, her hands flying up to cover her mouth, tears instantly flooding her eyes.
