Chapter 11 - THE TRIAL OF CLARA VANCEThree months later, the courtroom of the municipal district court was packed to maximum capacity.

Clara Vance sat at the defendant's table wearing an orange jumpsuit, her hair cropped short, her eyes hollow and fixed firmly on the wooden defense table. Her high-priced defense attorney had tried every legal maneuver in the book—claiming temporary insanity, extreme occupational stress, and even attempting to invalidate the CCTV footage on technicalities.
However, Judge Thomas Miller was having none of it.
"When a teacher steps into a classroom," Judge Miller stated firmly, his voice echoing sharply across the silent courtroom, "they accept a sacred trust to protect, nurture, and guide the children entrusted to their care. Clara Vance did not merely fail that trust; she systematically abused, terrorized, and tortured a vulnerable child who was already carrying the immense weight of caring for a disabled parent."
The judge reviewed the unedited CCTV footage on the court’s massive overhead screens. The courtroom gasped audibly as the brutal strike of the wooden ruler played out in high definition for the jury and public to witness once more.
"Furthermore," Judge Miller continued, "her calculated attempt to sabotage school safety equipment to cover her tracks demonstrates a severe and calculated consciousness of guilt."
The jury foreman stood up, holding a stiff white envelope.
"On the first count of felony child abuse under the color of authority, how does the jury find the defendant?"
"Guilty, Your Honor."
"On the second count of tampering with vital school safety equipment and obstruction of justice, how do you find?"
"Guilty, Your Honor."
Clara closed her eyes as the gavel struck wood with a final, echoing crash.

"I sentence Clara Vance to eight years in state correctional facility without the possibility of parole for the first three years," Judge Miller pronounced without a hint of hesitation.
The nightmare was officially over, and justice had been delivered in full view of the public eye.
