Chapter 20 - The Puppeteer's Shadow

The raid was absolute chaos.

Interpol tactical units repelled through the shattered glass ceilings of the ballroom, deploying flashbangs and tear gas. The world’s most dangerous criminals scrambled like rats, only to be tackled and handcuffed by heavily armed police.

In the vault, Elias released Olga’s throat, stumbling backward as he realized his empire had just evaporated into thin air. His life's work, destroyed by a few strokes of a keyboard.

Julian didn't hesitate. He dropped his silver cane, raised his hands, and surrendered as Interpol agents breached the vault doors, their laser sights painting Elias’s chest.

“Elias Thorne, you are under arrest for international racketeering, money laundering, and terrorism,” the lead agent barked, slamming the billionaire against the titanium table and slapping heavy cuffs on his wrists.

As Elias was dragged away, he looked back at Olga. There was no rage left in his eyes—only the hollow, broken realization that he had been completely outsmarted by Elena's daughter.

Olga stood amidst the chaos, rubbing her bruised neck, breathing in the cold air of freedom. It was over. The nightmare was finally over.

A month later, Olga was back in her sunlit apartment in New York City.

The fallout had been legendary. The Thorne Syndicate was dismantled. Over four hundred arrests were made globally based on her ledgers. The ten billion dollars had been successfully funneled into legitimate global aid charities, and Olga had been quietly pardoned of any cyber-crimes due to her unparalleled cooperation. She was safe. She had avenged her mother and herself.

She poured a glass of red wine, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the peaceful snowfall over Manhattan. She finally felt a profound, overwhelming sense of closure.

Her laptop pinged.

Olga walked over to her mahogany desk. It was an encrypted email from an unknown sender. Frowning, she opened it.

There was no text in the body of the email. Just an attachment—a high-resolution photograph.

Olga clicked it, and her blood ran instantly cold.

It was a photo from her graduation day in Charlotte, taken from the VIP section. It showed Olga standing on the stage, the exact moment the Principal, Mr. Davies, handed her the Chancellor’s Gold Medal.

But the image was zoomed in. Magnified 500x onto Principal Davies’s academic robes.

Pinned discreetly to his lapel was a heavy silver signet ring. A viper coiled around a dagger. The exact same crest she had found in the Geneva vault.

Below the image, a single line of text slowly typed itself across her screen.

Elias was just the middleman, Olga. The $2.4 million Jack Vance stole was my money. And now, you owe me ten billion. See you soon.

👉 Olga stared at the screen in absolute horror, realizing the true mastermind behind her mother's death had been sitting in the front row of her graduation all along, watching her every move.

Who is Principal Davies really, and how will Olga fight a ghost who controls her past? Let me know your theories in the comments!
