Chapter 8 - THE RESTRUCTURINGOver the next six months, the restructuring of Blackwood-Vance Global was swift, thorough, and revolutionary.

Julian Mercer was officially indicted by the State Attorney’s office for corporate fraud and commercial bribery, facing three years in a state facility.
Vale Capital collapsed entirely after three major pension funds withdrew their investments, forcing Richard Vale to liquidate his private assets to cover his firm’s massive debts.
Vanessa Cole vanished completely from the Manhattan social scene, her name permanently removed from charity rosters and high-society clubs across the East Coast.
Meanwhile, at the Blackwood Grand Hotel, the atmosphere had completely transformed.
On a warm Tuesday afternoon, I walked through the grand lobby dressed in a comfortable dark green silk dress, holding a tablet.
Behind the front desk stood Sarah—a young woman who had worked beside me during my weeks as a maid. She now served as the head of Guest Relations, earning twice her previous salary with full health benefits and a college tuition scholarship provided by our new fund.
“Good afternoon, Dr. Vance!” Sarah smiled brightly as I passed.
“Good afternoon, Sarah,” I smiled back. “How are the new staff shift schedules working out?”
“Fantastic,” Sarah reported happily. “Everyone is rested, the service ratings are at an all-time high of ninety-nine percent, and guest compliance with staff respect policies is perfect.”
“Wonderful,” I nodded.
I walked through the double doors leading into the main courtyard, where a beautiful garden terrace overlooked the city skyline.
Sitting at a private stone table beneath the warm afternoon sun was Alexander, reviewing financial reports on his laptop.
He looked up as I approached, his cold grey eyes instantly softening into that rare, genuine warmth he only showed to me.
“How was the Chicago flight?” Alexander asked, standing up to pull out a chair for me.
“Smooth,” I replied, sitting down. “The audit on the Chicago property was clean. The new management team is doing an extraordinary job.”

Alexander poured two glasses of sparkling mineral water, handing one to me.
“You’ve changed this company, Elena,” Alexander said softly, looking at me across the stone table. “In six months, you’ve done what three generations of Blackwood executives couldn't do. You gave this empire a soul.”
