Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM CONFRONTATIONThe executive boardroom on the fourth floor was tense enough to crack glass.

Julian Mercer—a slick, forty-five-year-old General Manager wearing an expensive suit—was pacing back and forth in front of six senior board members of Blackwood Holdings.

“I assure you, ladies and gentlemen of the board,” Mercer stammered, wiping sweat from his forehead with a silk handkerchief, “the incident in the ballroom was an isolated event! Miss Cole was simply over-enthusiastic, and the maid in question was completely unqualified for high-level service—”

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Alexander walked in first, followed immediately by me.

Mercer stopped mid-sentence, his eyes darting to my tailored ivory suit, my professional posture, and the authoritative way I stepped to the head of the table.

“Mr. Mercer,” Alexander said smoothly, taking his seat at the head of the long glass table. “You were saying something about an unqualified maid?”

Mercer blinked, completely confused. “Alexander... who is this woman? Why is a guest allowed in a private executive board meeting?”

Board member Eleanor Thorne, a sharp woman in her sixties, looked up from her iPad with a knowing smile. “Julian, allow me to introduce Dr. Elena Vance. She owns Vance Global Logistics and holds the primary vote on our upcoming international restructuring.”

Mercer’s face went completely grey. His jaw dropped, his handkerchief slipping from his fingers to the carpet.

“Dr.... Dr. Vance?” Mercer stammered. “The... the maid from the ballroom...?”

I set my tablet on the glass table and connected it wirelessly to the room’s massive wall projection screen.

“Good evening, Mr. Mercer,” I said calmly. “For ninety days, I have worked as 'Elena' under your direct chain of command. During that time, I documented forty-two violations of federal labor compliance, seven counts of wage theft regarding night-shift cleaning crews, and three hidden offshore payments from Vale Capital.”

The wall screen lit up, displaying clear digital copies of Mercer’s bank statements alongside recorded internal security footage.

The board members gasped, murmuring in outrage as they read the evidence.

“This is a setup!” Mercer yelled, pointing a trembling finger at me. “She fabricated these files! She’s trying to sabotage the company!”

“The bank transfers were verified twenty minutes ago by forensic accounting, Julian,” Alexander interrupted coldly. “You took bribes from Richard Vale to allow his fiancée to abuse my staff.”

“I was securing a fifty-million-dollar deal for this hotel!” Mercer shouted defensively. “A few upset waitresses are a small price to pay for that kind of capital!”

I stepped to the front of the screen, looking Mercer dead in his desperate eyes.

“A company that sacrifices its workers for corporate capital is already bankrupt, Mr. Mercer,” I said softly. “Your employment with Blackwood Holdings is terminated immediately, effective as of ten seconds ago.”

“You can’t fire me!” Mercer spat. “I have a ten-year executive contract!”

“Which is voided under Clause 12: Gross Misconduct and Criminal Fraud,” Alexander added flatly. “Security is already waiting outside. Escort Mr. Mercer from the building, and surrender his files to the District Attorney.”

Two heavy security guards stepped into the room, grabbing Mercer by his arms. As he was dragged out the door, screaming threats against Vance Global, I sat down at the table beside Alexander.

The room fell quiet once more.

“Now,” I said, pulling up a fresh file on the screen. “Let’s discuss restructuring the employee protection protocols across all fifty Blackwood properties.”
