Chapter 6 - THE FINAL PIECE OF EVIDENCEOn Thursday morning, the grand ballroom of the Blackwood Grand was transformed into a press conference hall.

Over fifty reporters, camera crews, and financial journalists filled the seating area, eager to hear the official statement regarding the future of Vance Global and Blackwood Holdings.
I stood backstage in a stunning navy wool dress, reviewing my speech notes on a tablet.
Alexander walked up beside me, handing me a glass of sparkling water. “You’re ready for this?”
“I’ve been ready for ninety days, Alexander,” I smiled.
Suddenly, a loud commotion broke out near the backstage security doors.
“Let me through!” a woman’s voice screamed frantically. “I have a right to talk to her! You ruined my life!”
I turned my head.
Vanessa Cole was fighting with two female security officers near the curtain. She was wearing dark sunglasses, a rain trench coat, her hair messy, looking completely unhinged.
Alexander’s eyes went dark, stepping forward to block her path. “Get her out of here.”
“Wait, Alexander,” I said, holding up a hand. “Let her speak.”
The security guards held Vanessa’s arms firmly, but allowed her to step into the backstage hallway.
Vanessa pulled off her dark sunglasses, revealing red, swollen eyes. “You happy now, Elena?! Is this what you wanted?! Richard canceled our wedding! My family’s foundation lost its funding! Every news network in the country is running that video of me!”
I walked up to her, stopping three feet away, my expression completely serene.
“I didn't film the video, Vanessa,” I pointed out calmly. “Your own wealthy friends recorded it because they thought watching you humiliate a maid was funny.”
“You set me up!” Vanessa sobbed, her voice cracking. “You dressed up like a maid to trap me!”
“I dressed up like a maid to audit this hotel,” I corrected her. “You trapped yourself the moment you decided another human being was beneath your respect simply because she was wearing an apron.”
Vanessa stared at me, her chest heaving, tears ruining her expensive makeup. For the first time, she realized that she couldn't bribe, manipulate, or talk her way out of the wall she had run into.
“You’re a monster,” Vanessa whispered.
“No, Vanessa,” I replied softly. “I’m just the woman who cleaned up your mess.”
I turned to the security guards. “Escort Miss Cole off the property. If she returns, file a formal trespass order.”

As Vanessa was led away crying into the rain, the press manager stepped backstage.
“Dr. Vance, Mr. Blackwood. The press conference is starting.”
