Chapter 7 - THE PRESS CONFERENCEAlexander and I walked onto the grand stage together, stepping behind the wooden podiums lined with microphones.

The camera flashes illuminated the room like a thousand bursting stars.
Alexander spoke first, his voice calm, powerful, and authoritative.
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,” Alexander announced. “Today, Blackwood Holdings is proud to announce a monumental shift in our corporate strategy. Effective immediately, we are entering an exclusive, multi-billion-dollar global merger with Vance Global Logistics, under the leadership of Dr. Elena Vance.”
Applause echoed through the press room.
“Furthermore,” Alexander continued, looking directly into the primary news camera, “we are establishing the Blackwood-Vance Employee Protection Fund—a fifty-million-dollar annual endowment dedicated to providing legal defense, higher education grants, and fair-wage guarantees for all service and hospitality workers across our international network.”
The reporters gasped, writing rapidly on their pads.
Alexander stepped back, gesturing to me.
I stepped up to the microphone, looking out at the rows of cameras.
“Three months ago,” I began, my voice steady and resolute, “I put on a maid’s uniform and walked the halls of this hotel. I swept floors, carried heavy luggage, and cleaned rooms. I saw the extraordinary dedication of service workers who keep our world running every single day.”
I paused, catching Alexander’s eye at the side of the stage.
“Too often, society treats frontline workers as invisible, or worse, as targets for arrogance,” I continued. “Today, Vance Global and Blackwood Holdings are sending a clear message to every corporate board in the world: Character is not optional. Respect is not negotiable. And no amount of wealth will ever buy immunity from basic human decency.”
