Chapter 26 - The Unclouded Horizon

The sun dipped slowly below the horizon of Mexico City on the final evening of November, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of deep violet, amber, and molten gold.
The academy had finished its classes for the day, and the courtyard was quiet once more, save for the gentle rustle of leaves in the jacaranda tree and the distant hum of the evening city.
Mateo and I stood on the second-story veranda of our home, looking out over the twinkling lights of Coyoacán and the sprawling, brilliant metropolis beyond.
The road behind us had been long, scarred by betrayal, corporate greed, and the terrifying shadows of a syndicate that thought it owned the world. But the road stretching out ahead was wide, open, and illuminated by the brilliant, unbroken promise of tomorrow.
There were no more secrets to hide. No more enemies lurking in the dark.
There was only the warmth of an honest home, the unwavering strength of true love, and the brilliant, unending horizon stretching out infinitely before us.
Mateo wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder as we watched the evening stars begin to pierce the velvet sky.
"Ready for tomorrow?" he whispered softly against my ear.
I smiled, leaning back against his chest, feeling the steady, calm beat of his heart.
May you like
"Always," I whispered.
The morning—and every tomorrow that followed—belonged entirely to us.
