Chapter 2 - The Documents Adrian Refused to SignVivian had brought three documents to the marina.

The first transferred Adrian’s voting shares in Cole Maritime Holdings into a trust she controlled. The second granted her permanent authority over his medical and financial decisions. The third described him as unable to manage corporate affairs following the spinal injury that placed him in a wheelchair.

Adrian was physically disabled, not cognitively impaired.

He understood every clause.

Vivian claimed the documents would protect the company if his health declined. Adrian’s attorney discovered that the trust could sell assets without consulting him and that its sole successor trustee was Vivian’s brother.

When Adrian refused to sign, Vivian became unusually calm.

She suggested a private dinner aboard one of the company yachts so they could discuss the matter without lawyers. Instead, she guided him toward the quietest section of the dock.

Adrian had suspected financial betrayal.

He had not yet understood that Vivian considered his continued survival the final obstacle to completing it.
