Chapter 1 - The Wheelchair at the Dock’s EdgeVivian Cole pushed Adrian’s blue wheelchair along the polished marina dock.

“Stop pushing me. I know what you did.”

She halted beside a slight slope leading toward the unguarded edge and leaned close.

“Then you know you can’t stop me.”

Adrian pointed at her. “You used me, and now you want me silent?”

While he watched her face, Vivian’s black heel released the right wheel brake.

“You should have signed everything.”

“You’ll never own what you stole.”

She gave the chair one concealed push and released the handles. Adrian grabbed both rims, but the front casters crossed the edge. The wheelchair tipped into the dark water.

Vivian looked down without helping. She removed one red phone from her clutch.

“It’s done.”

Underwater, the lap strap held Adrian to the sinking chair. He searched beneath the right armrest until his fingers found a waterproof red button.

When he pressed it, a silent emergency signal began transmitting the wheelchair’s location—and the final minutes recorded by its safety system.
