Chapter 20 - The Watch Ends
Arthur opened the gift box later that evening in his quiet living room.
Inside was a beautiful, custom-made wooden plaque.
It was engraved with a yellow school bus and a heartfelt message.
"To the man who sees the unseen, and protects the vulnerable. Thank you."
It was signed by Maya and her mother.
Arthur traced the letters with his calloused fingers, a contented sigh escaping his lips.
He walked over to the mantle and placed the plaque perfectly in the center.
He poured himself a glass of iced tea and sat in his favorite recliner.
The house was incredibly quiet, but it was a peaceful silence.
He had successfully navigated the darkest chapter of his life.
He had pulled a terrified girl out of a living nightmare.
