Chapter 12 - The Midnight Raid
Hours passed like molasses as Arthur waited at the police station.
Miller had handed the footage over to Detective Sarah Jenkins.
Jenkins was a fierce investigator known for taking down predators.
She expedited the warrant process through an emergency judge.
"We are going in at midnight," Jenkins informed Arthur.
"Can I come?" Arthur asked, desperate to see it through.
"Absolutely not," Jenkins said firmly.
"It's a tactical operation."
Arthur paced the waiting room, chewing his fingernails to the quick.
He thought about Maya, sleeping in that house of horrors.
He thought about the mother, oblivious to the evil living under her roof.
At 11:30 PM, heavily armed officers piled into unmarked vans.
Miller stayed behind with Arthur to keep him updated.
"They know what they are doing, Arthur," Miller reassured him.
But Arthur knew that cornered animals were the most dangerous.
