Chapter 6 - The Gentle Giant

The next morning, the private gardens of the Marchetti estate were bathed in brilliant, video-bright sunshine. Green hedges, blooming red roses, and crystal fountains created a peaceful paradise behind twenty-foot stone walls guarded by armed security.

Four-year-old Lily ran across the lush manicured lawn in a brand-new yellow floral dress, her long light-brown curls bouncing around her shoulders, the bright pink bow catching the sunlight. In her hand, she held a set of colorful chalks Dante had bought her.

Sitting on a low marble bench nearby was Dante Marchetti. The feared mob boss sat in his dark suit, holding Lily’s worn gray stuffed rabbit delicately in his broad, tattooed left hand.

Sarah watched from the terrace, holding a warm cup of tea, her heart melting at the surreal sight. The most dangerous man in the city was currently acting as a guardian for a plush bunny while a four-year-old drew bright flowers on his marble terrace floor.

"Uncle Dante!" Lily called out, running up to him with her cream shoes clicking on the stone. "Look! I drew a dragon!"

Dante leaned forward, examining the bright green scribbles on the white marble with complete seriousness. "That is the most fierce dragon I have ever seen, Lily," he said, his gravelly voice filled with genuine warmth. "Does it protect the castle?"

"No," Lily shook her head, her bright hazel eyes shining up at him. "It protects you."

Dante chuckled softly, a deep, rich sound that echoed across the quiet garden. He reached down with his right hand, gently ruffling her light-brown curls. "I don't think I need a dragon when I have you around, little one."

Lily giggled, climbing onto the marble bench beside him and sitting right next to his broad leg. She reached over, took her gray rabbit back from his hand, and held it up to his ear. "Mr. Bunny says thank you for keeping us safe."

Dante looked down at his tiny niece, his heart swelling with a fierce, profound love he had never experienced before. He had spent his entire life building an empire of fear, power, and violence. But looking at Lily’s innocent, glowing face, he realized that true strength wasn't about destruction—it was about protecting the innocent light in a dark world.

"Tell Mr. Bunny he is welcome anytime," Dante whispered gently, wrapping his broad arm securely around her small shoulders.
