Chapter 7 - The Blueprint of Tomorrow

Back in our newly acquired penthouse overlooking Central Park, the evening sunlight painted the sky in shades of deep amber and violet.
The apartment was quiet, filled not with the cold, intimidating mahogany of the old Blackwood estate, but with the warm, vibrant laughter of a child who was finally safe.
In the corner of the sunlit living room, Penny sat cross-legged on a plush velvet rug, meticulously building a complex castle out of colored wooden blocks. Her little velvet cape hung neatly in her new bedroom closet, a relic of a past life we had successfully left behind.
I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, holding a porcelain cup of green tea, watching the city skyline stretch out endlessly before me. My phone buzzed quietly on the marble side table.
I glanced down at the screen. A secure notification from Marcus Reed:
“Federal indictment filed. Blackwood trial docket confirmed for next quarter. All asset transfers complete. Hart Meridian is operating at full capacity.”
I tapped a single reply: “Archive the file. Move forward.”
A soft pair of small arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind. I looked down to see Penny pressing her cheek against my trousers, looking up at me with bright, intelligent eyes that held no fear—only complete, unconditional trust.
"Mommy, are we ever going back to that big, cold house?" she asked softly.
I crouched down, setting my teacup aside, and gently brushed a stray lock of brown hair away from her forehead. I looked straight into her eyes, speaking with the absolute certainty of a woman who had measured the world and built her own foundation.
"No, sweetheart," I smiled, wrapping my arms tightly around her. "We are never going back. From now on, we build our own house. And no one will ever shake its walls again."
Penny smiled brightly, throwing her arms around my neck. "Can we build a tall tower with a secret landline?"

I laughed—a real, free, unburdened sound that echoed through the peaceful penthouse.
"We can build whatever we want, baby," I whispered, looking out at the glittering lights of Manhattan as they flickered to life across the evening sky. "The numbers are entirely ours."
