Chapter 12 - The Video That Looked Terrible

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The problem was obvious.
Damian had slapped Celia.
He had punched both bodyguards.
Without context, the footage could look disastrous.
Richard watched the party-hall recording again.
“Prosecutors may understand self-defense.”
“But family court?” Damian asked.
Richard didn’t answer immediately.
That told Damian enough.
Celia’s confidence began to return.
Just a little.
“You see?”
Damian looked at her.
“You walked straight into it.”
She smiled through swollen eyes.
“You always solve everything with your fists.”
Damian stood.
Frank moved closer.
But Damian didn’t approach Celia.
He simply looked at the screen.
Then at Richard.
“What happens if a judge sees the whole recording?”
“The whole recording helps.”
“How much?”
Richard hesitated.
“The chain is devastating evidence against her. Your actions toward the bodyguards appear responsive to them charging you.”
“And the slap?”
“That is harder.”
Celia smiled wider.
Damian nodded.
He wasn’t proud of it.
“I shouldn’t have hit her.”
Celia blinked.
She had expected denial.
Damian continued.
“I saw my granddaughter chained to a harness and I lost control for one second.”
Richard watched him carefully.
“I’ll say that under oath.”
Celia frowned.
“You’re admitting assault?”
“I’m admitting what I did.”
“Are you insane?”
“No.”
Damian looked directly at her.
“That’s the difference between us.”
The room went quiet.
He didn’t need to pretend he was perfect.
He needed to tell the truth.
Then Frank remembered something.
“The front-door camera.”
Celia turned sharply.
“What?”
Frank pulled out his phone.
“You removed the interior system. But the gate and entrance are handled by a separate security company.”
Richard stood.
“Does it have audio?”
“No.”
“But timestamps?”
“Yes.”
They accessed the cloud archive.
The footage showed Damian arriving.
It also showed something else.
Seven minutes before he arrived, Celia walked outside and spoke to Bodyguard One.
She handed him something.
Then pointed toward the front door.
Three minutes later, Bodyguard Two moved the large stone statue closer to the banquet table.
Damian frowned.
“Why move the statue?”
Frank zoomed in.
At the statue’s former position was a small wall camera.
Celia had moved the statue specifically to block it.
She knew about that camera.
But she didn’t know about the backup camera hidden inside the statue itself.
Richard almost laughed.
“She blinded one lens with the device containing another.”
Celia’s smile vanished.
Then detectives received Curtis’s supplemental statement.
Before Damian arrived, Celia had ordered both guards:
“When he touches me, rush him. Make sure he swings.”
Richard read the message twice.
Damian leaned back.
He had not escaped Celia’s trap because he stayed calm.
He had escaped because Celia had documented too much of the trap herself.
But Lily’s case still had one dangerous problem.
Dr. Brennan’s signed medical report remained active.
And the court hearing was less than twelve hours away.

👉 Damian had the truth—but unless he dismantled the medical evidence by morning, Celia could still force Lily into temporary court custody.
