Chapter 6 - The Syndicate Awakens After Years Of Quiet Shadows

The realization that the Grand Plaza was a mafia stronghold shattered the final illusions of safety the wealthy guests held. The ten men in dark suits standing guard at the exits were not hotel security; they were Syndicate soldiers, loyal only to the rugged, battle-hardened man standing in the center of the room. Sylvester Stallone had been a ghost for five years, a myth the city's elites had happily forgotten as they carved up his territory in the boardrooms. Now, the ghost was flesh and blood, and he was staring down the most arrogant woman in high society.

Vivienne Cross was trembling so violently that the diamond earrings dangling from her lobes clattered against her neck. She looked at her peers—the senators, the CEOs, the old-money heirs—pleading silently for someone, anyone, to intervene. But the elite crowd actively avoided her gaze. In the face of raw, unadulterated power, their billions meant nothing. They were sheep in a pen, and Vivienne had just slapped the wolf.

"Mr. Stallone," Vivienne whispered, her American accent shaking with panic. She took a hesitant step forward, leaving the wreckage of the porcelain vase behind. "I will apologize publicly. I will write a check to any charity you desire. Five million. Ten million. Name your price. Just please... let me leave."

Sylvester didn't look at her immediately. He turned his attention to the Hotel Manager, who was still standing at rigid attention.

"Thomas, the jacket," Sylvester commanded quietly.

"Right away, sir," the Manager responded. He rushed over to the velvet chair, carefully picking up the champagne-soaked dark jacket. He folded it with immense reverence, despite the ruin of the fabric, and handed it to one of the Syndicate soldiers standing nearby.

"Ten million dollars," Sylvester finally said, rolling the number around on his tongue as if tasting it. He turned his piercing eyes back to Vivienne. "You believe that is the price of my dignity?"

"No! No, of course not," Vivienne stammered, stepping back as he took a step forward. "It's... it's a gesture of goodwill. A token of my profound regret."

"Goodwill," Sylvester repeated, the word sounding entirely foreign in his deep, gravelly voice. "You poured alcohol on me to amuse your friends. You ordered me from my own property. You treated me like a stray dog. That wasn't a mistake, Vivienne. That was your nature."

"I can change," she sobbed, the tears flowing freely down her fair cheeks, washing away her expensive cosmetics. "Please, I have a family. I have a daughter."

"I know," Sylvester said calmly. "Sophia. Twelve years old, attending the prestigious Oakbridge Academy. Your husband, Charles, sitting on the board of the First National Bank. He's currently hiding behind the ice sculpture near the buffet, trying to calculate how quickly he can divorce you to save his assets."

Vivienne gasped, her head snapping toward the buffet tables. True to Sylvester's word, Charles was cowering behind the carved ice, his face buried in his hands. He didn't even look up to defend his wife.

"You see, Vivienne," Sylvester continued, his voice lowering to a terrifying purr. "When I disappeared, I didn't stop watching. I let people like you believe you ran the city. I let you get comfortable. Arrogant."

He stepped close enough that Vivienne could smell the faint scent of expensive cedar and the stale champagne on his shirt. She squeezed her eyes shut, expecting a bullet or another devastating blow.

"Open your eyes," Sylvester commanded.

She did, her entire body shaking.

"I don't want your money," Sylvester stated, his expression completely blank. "I want your empire. Thomas, clear the room. Everyone goes home. Except Mrs. Cross."

May you like

The Hotel Manager nodded sharply. "Ladies and gentlemen, the gala is concluded. Please proceed to the exits in an orderly fashion."

The guests didn't need to be told twice. They surged toward the heavy brass doors, moving with a desperate, frantic speed, leaving the ruined Vivienne entirely alone with the legendary Mafia Boss.
