Chapter 4 - The Astonished Hotel Manager Bows To The Legend

The grand ballroom remained locked in a state of sheer paralysis. The shattered porcelain vase and the crushed white roses surrounding Vivienne Cross formed a chaotic throne of her own humiliation. Several wealthy men in the crowd instinctively reached into their tuxedos for their cell phones, ready to summon their private security teams, while others simply stared at the rugged man who had just committed high-society treason.
From the far end of the ballroom, a set of heavy brass doors swung open rapidly. The Hotel Manager, a distinguished fifty-two-year-old man with silver hair, dressed in a formal black suit and immaculate white gloves, hurried into the room. His face was tense, having heard the echoing crash of the antique vase from the lobby.
"Security!" Vivienne shrieked from the floor, her voice cracking as she finally found her breath. She pointed a trembling finger at Sylvester. "Manager! Arrest this animal! Have him killed! He assaulted me!"
The crowd parted instantly as the Hotel Manager rushed forward. The guests expected a violent takedown. They expected the manager to signal the hidden guards to descend upon the rugged intruder and drag him out into the night.
The Hotel Manager broke through the circle of stunned guests, his eyes frantically scanning the wreckage. He saw the shattered vase, the soaked crimson gown, and the furious, trembling heiress on the floor. Then, his eyes traveled upward, landing on the broad, imposing figure standing calmly in the dark shirt.
The Manager froze. All the color instantly drained from his face. His perfectly manicured hands began to shake inside his white gloves. He recognized the jawline. He recognized the terrifyingly calm eyes. He recognized the man the entire underworld believed had vanished five years ago.
Vivienne struggled to her feet, leaning against the marble pedestal for support. "What are you waiting for?!" she screamed at the Manager. "Grab him! Do you know who I am? I will buy this hotel and fire you tomorrow if you do not touch him!"
The Hotel Manager didn't look at Vivienne. He didn't even acknowledge her existence. He took two slow, highly measured steps toward Sylvester Stallone. The tension in the room was so thick it could be cut with a knife.
Slowly, deliberately, the Hotel Manager bent at the waist, lowering his head in a deep, profound bow of absolute submission and respect.
"Welcome back, Mr. Sylvester Stallone," the Hotel Manager said, his voice trembling slightly but carrying clearly across the silent ballroom. "We were not informed of your arrival this evening, sir."
A collective gasp rippled through the older men in the crowd. The name hit them like a physical blow. Sylvester Stallone. The ghost. The legendary Mafia Boss who had ruled the city’s underground with an iron fist before disappearing into the shadows. He wasn't just a criminal; he was the apex predator of a syndicate so vast it influenced elections and owned police commissioners.
Vivienne stopped breathing. Her fair, rosy skin turned completely ashen. She looked at the Manager, still holding his deep bow, and then slowly turned her terrified eyes back to the man she had just poured champagne on.
"No," Vivienne whispered, her American accent losing all its crisp authority, devolving into a pathetic whimper. "No, that's impossible. He's dead. Everyone said he was dead."
Sylvester looked down at the bowing Manager. "Stand up, Thomas."
The Manager stood up immediately, snapping to attention, his hands clasped tightly behind his back. "Sir. How can I be of service? Shall I clear the ballroom?"
May you like
"Not yet," Sylvester replied calmly, his deep voice resonating with absolute authority. "It seems the guests here have forgotten the rules of the house. They believe their bank accounts give them permission to make a mess on my floor."
Vivienne’s knees buckled slightly. The reality of her situation was finally crashing down upon her. She hadn't just insulted a random thug. She had publicly assaulted the most dangerous man on the eastern seaboard, a man who could erase her entire family lineage with a single, quiet phone call.
