Chapter 10 - A New Threat Approaches The Freshly Claimed Empire

The cold night air hit Vivienne Cross like a physical blow as the heavy steel doors of the service alley slammed shut behind her. She collapsed onto the damp, unforgiving asphalt, her ruined crimson gown soaking up the grime of the city streets. The diamond earrings that had sparkled so proudly in the ballroom now felt like heavy chains pulling her down into the filth. She lay there in the dark alleyway, sobbing uncontrollably as the reality of her complete destruction washed over her. Sylvester Stallone hadn't just humiliated her; he had dismantled her entire life with a single file. Tomorrow, she would be destitute, disgraced, and imprisoned. All because she had poured a glass of champagne on a man in a dark suit.

Inside the penthouse suite of the Grand Plaza, high above the dirty alleys, Sylvester Stallone stood by the massive windows, pouring himself a single glass of bourbon. The quiet ambiance of the room was a stark contrast to the violence he had unleashed upon the city's power structure tonight. He took a slow sip of the amber liquid, the burning sensation grounding him in the present.

The heavy oak doors of the suite clicked open. Thomas, the Hotel Manager, entered with his usual quiet efficiency.

"Mr. Stallone," Thomas said, his tone urgent but respectful. "The file has been delivered to the federal prosecutor. The warrants for the Cross family will be executed at dawn."

"Good," Sylvester replied, not turning away from the window. "What about Romano and the other faction bosses? Have they made a move?"

"They are panicking, sir," Thomas reported. "They are pulling their men back to their strongholds, expecting a massive retaliation from us. They are entirely focused on defense."

"Exactly as planned," Sylvester murmured. His return was never just about punishing an arrogant socialite; it was a calculated move to throw the entire underworld into chaos, to make his enemies reveal their hands out of sheer terror.

Suddenly, the secure encrypted phone on Sylvester's heavy oak desk began to ring. It was a harsh, jarring sound that cut through the silence of the suite.

Thomas stiffened. Only a handful of people in the world possessed that number, and all of them were supposed to be dead or entirely loyal to the Syndicate.

Sylvester slowly set his bourbon glass down on the window sill. He walked over to the desk and stared at the glowing screen. The number was blocked, routed through dozens of international servers to mask its origin. He picked up the receiver and brought it to his ear, his fair, weathered face completely unreadable.

"Stallone," he answered, his deep American accent echoing in the quiet room.

For a moment, there was only the faint static of a secure connection. Then, a smooth, chillingly calm voice spoke through the speaker.

"I must admit, Sylvester," the voice said, entirely devoid of fear. "I didn't believe the rumors. I thought the ghost was truly dead. It seems I owe my intelligence division an apology."

Sylvester's eyes narrowed slightly. He recognized the voice. It belonged to a phantom from his past, a man who operated not in the dirty streets of the city, but in the sterile, ruthless boardrooms of international cartels.

"You shouldn't have called this number, Victor," Sylvester said coldly.

"And you shouldn't have revealed yourself over a petty squabble with a socialite," Victor replied smoothly. "You made a mess tonight, Sylvester. You disrupted the ecosystem. And my employers are very unhappy with disruptions."

"Tell your employers they are no longer welcome in my city," Sylvester stated, his voice a low, dangerous rumble.

"It isn't your city anymore, old friend," Victor chuckled softly. "Look out your window. Look at the docks. We didn't wait for you to come to us."

Sylvester kept the phone to his ear as he strode back to the floor-to-ceiling windows. He looked past the glittering skyline, directing his gaze toward the industrial harbor miles away in the distance.

Suddenly, a massive explosion tore through the night sky, a brilliant orange fireball erupting from the Syndicate's primary shipping warehouse. The shockwave rattled the reinforced glass of the penthouse a full five seconds later.

Sylvester didn't flinch. The calm, terrifying mask remained firmly in place.

"Consider this my formal resignation from our previous arrangement," Victor whispered through the phone. "Welcome back to the land of the living, Sylvester. Try not to die again."

The line clicked dead. Sylvester slowly lowered the phone, watching the flames rage in the distance. The socialite had been dealt with, but the real war had just arrived at his doorstep.
