Chapter 10 - The Seat at the TableA year later, I boarded a plane again — this time, with all three of them beside me. We were going to Paris. I’d booked the tickets, but this time, they’d transferred every dollar to me before we left. Danielle had even insisted on paying for dinner every night.

When we reached our seats — all of us in economy, side by side — Dad turned to me. “I saved up,” he said quietly. “Not enough for first class. But one day, I’m going to buy you your own ticket. Just because you’re my daughter. Not because you paid for it.”

I smiled. “I know.”

We took off, and as the plane climbed above the clouds, I looked out the window. I didn’t need first class anymore. I had something better: a family that chose me. A place where I belonged — not because of what I gave, but because of who I was.
