Chapter 10 - The Horizon We ChoseSix months after that rainy afternoon when my daughters finally broke their silence, the world had changed completely.

The newspapers still whispered stories about the fall of the Romano syndicate’s financial wing, but they didn't know the real story. They didn't know about the little camera hidden behind a velvet cushion in the library. They didn't know about the three little girls who had saved their father by finally finding their voices.

On a bright, crisp Sunday morning in October—the exact anniversary of the day our lives had shattered—I stood with my daughters and Grace on the sandy shore of a private beach near Montauk.

The autumn wind whipped across the water, carrying the fresh, salty scent of the ocean and the sound of gulls crying overhead.

Olivia, Sophie, and Nora ran along the edge of the receding tide, laughing and collecting smooth white seashells in small woven baskets. Their laughter was no longer fragile or hesitant; it was loud, joyful, and completely free.

Grace stood a few paces away, watching them with a radiant smile, her coat fluttering in the coastal breeze.

I walked over to her, stopping just beside her as we watched the girls splashing near the surf.

“They’re going to be okay, aren't they?” I asked quietly.

Grace turned her head, looking up at me with those steady, perceptive gray eyes.

“They were always going to be okay, Dominic,” she answered softly, slipping her hand into mine. “They just needed someone to remind them how to sing in the dark.”

I squeezed her hand tightly, looking out toward the bright, unwritten horizon ahead of us.

For years, I had believed that power was built on fear, silence, and iron control. But standing there with my daughters laughing in the surf and the woman who had brought them back standing by my side, I finally understood the truth.

True strength wasn't about the enemies you destroyed.

It was about the family you fought to bring home into the light.
