PART 5: The master screen broke their silence.

PART 5: The master screen broke their silence.

I walked onto the stage, stopping beside the wooden podium, meeting Sebastian’s bloodshot, wild eyes with an unblinking gaze that held all the grief of my mother’s silent years.

I reached into my satin evening clutch and pulled out a slim, brushed-titanium transmitter.

I inserted the device directly into the podium’s master audiovisual input console.

BEEP.

The massive fifty-foot LED projection screen behind the stage—which had been displaying promotional images of children's hospital wards—flickered violently.

The images dissolved.

In their place appeared the high-resolution, unedited corporate banking logs of Vanguard Atlantic Logistics.

Across the fifty-foot display, forty offshore wire transfers totaling eighty-four million dollars were highlighted in glowing crimson, tracing funds directly from the Port of Newark pharmaceutical smuggling routes into Sebastian Moretti’s private shell entities in Zurich and Grand Cayman.

Directly beside the financial ledger was a second document: the forensic ballistics report from Julian Moretti’s murder scene, accompanied by high-resolution surveillance photographs of Sebastian’s private black sedan idling in the alley behind Julian's SoHo studio at 2:14 A.M. on the night of the execution.

A sharp, collective inhalation of breath sucked every ounce of oxygen out of the grand ballroom.

Two major pharmaceutical donors at Table One stood up so fast their chairs toppled backward against the carpet.

"Turn that off!" Sebastian screamed, his voice cracking into a high, hysterical screech that echoed through the high-end sound system.

"It's a digital forgery! She’s an extortionist! Dante is using a common waitress to fabricate a corporate takeover!"

"Nobody fabricated your voice, Sebastian," I said into the podium microphone.

My clear, steady voice filled every corner of the five-hundred-person ballroom, cutting through his hysteria with the precision of a diamond blade.

I pressed the transmit button on the console.

The unedited digital audio recording from the locket’s micro-SD card blasted through the acoustic ceiling speakers:

“...The girl, Olivia Marshall, has no idea what she carries in that necklace, Marcus. Her mother hid it well before she died in hospice. Once Julian is eliminated, we let the dust settle for three years. When the probate statute of limitations clears, we track the girl down in Queens, stage an accidental robbery in the subway, and retrieve the locket. Dante will never suspect our terminal was the breach.”

The silence that followed was heavier than a lead casket closing in a tomb.

Every eye in that vast room turned toward Sebastian Moretti with suffocating, absolute revulsion.

Sebastian dropped the gilded microphone.

It hit the stage floor with a concussive, booming screech that made three women in the front row flinch.

He turned toward the backstage exit, his eyes wild with animal panic, his hands clawing at his silk bowtie as he tried to sprint down the rear corridor toward the service elevators.

ROAR.

Orion didn't wait for a command.

The enormous black hound launched across the stage in two colossal, earth-shaking bounds.

He didn't tear flesh; he slammed his heavy, armored chest straight into Sebastian's shoulders with the force of an oncoming freight train.

Sebastian crashed onto the marble floor with a loud, pained grunt, his designer tuxedo ripping at the seams as Orion planted two massive, clawed paws firmly on the center of his chest.

The hundred-and-forty-pound dog pinned the shivering billionaire to the floor, his massive jaws hovering two inches above Sebastian’s throat, a low, continuous, terrifying rumble vibrating from his throat that pinned the man in absolute, frozen terror.

"Dante... please!" Sebastian wept, his tears streaking down his expensive cosmetics into the marble grout.

"Don't let him kill me! I am your father's brother! I built this foundation with our family's name! You can't execute me in front of the city!"

Dante walked slowly across the stage, stopping beside the pinned man.

He looked down at his uncle with the cold, clinical detachment of a surgeon inspecting a cancerous tumor that had finally been excised from healthy flesh.

"I’m not going to execute you, Sebastian," Dante whispered softly, his baritone chilling the air like a winter gale.

"Execution is an honorable end for a warrior. You are a rat who shot an unarmed boy in the dark to steal a piece of silver."

Dante gestured toward the double doors at the rear of the ballroom.

Two federal agents in dark suits and windbreakers from the United States Department of Justice Organized Crime Task Force walked down the aisle, flanked by four uniformed New York State Police investigators holding certified warrants of indictment.

"Every bank account you own was seized ten minutes ago, Sebastian," Dante told him, each word falling like an iron gavel striking granite.

"Your foundation is dissolved. Your corporate charter is revoked. And while you spend the rest of your life in an eight-by-ten concrete cell in upstate New York... Julian's true foundation will be managed by the woman you tried to bury in Queens."

Orion stepped off the weeping man’s chest, turning to trot back to my side, sitting tall against my gown as the federal agents hauled Sebastian Moretti to his feet, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his manicured wrists in full view of five hundred society donors.
